Everett Spruill Art

Everett Spruill (Born in 1954) was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He works in 3 styles and uses a variety of modified, but often undisguised, products or objects that are not normally used for artwork, often because they have been discarded. Themes for his art range from Music (Blues and Jazz), Family, the Culture of West Africa, and his own experiences as an African-American. He holds a degree in Business Management from Berea College, Kentucky. In his youth, he spent many afternoons at the Birmingham Museum of Art studying and admiring the works of art in the museum. Being a self-taught artist, his techniques are the result of far-reaching experimentation. He’s also a creative print-maker who’s able to transform his original mixed-media collages into only one of its kind original graphics. To do this, he uses a process he invented using elements of graffiti and serigraphs. Everett accepts both public and private commissions and his work is in corporate and private collections worldwide. His early exposure to classical music and the museum later proved to have a great influence on his development artistically. His mother worked at the Lounge of A.G. Gastons in the afternoon, and he’d wait for her at the Museum until she got off. This place was his refuge and it fueled his passion for art.
