Jack Sorenson was born in 1954. He grew up living in Old West lifestyle that’s now reflected in his work. When he came of age and while working at Six Gun City, he was deeply embedded with love for the imagery and stories that characterize Old West and which continues to motivate him even today. Before becoming a full-time artist, he worked as a performance gunfighter, a horse trainer, and a stagecoach driver. A naturally gifted artist since childhood, he began painting full-time in 1974. Sorenson committed himself to a career in art and never looked back after his first solo show sold out that same year. Sorenson's work has been featured on the covers of over sixty western magazines including The Cattleman, Western Horseman, The Quarter Horse Journal, Today's Horse, and Beef. Feature articles on his work have been published in Persimmon Hill, Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, and Western Horseman etc.
He’s one of the best selling artists today. In 1996, his work was picked up by Leanin' Tree Greeting Card Company and his paintings have been licensed for wall hangings prints, and jig-saw puzzles. Recognizing the homespun and warm nature of his work, the Harvest House Publishing released two books featuring his paintings - Growing Up Cowboy in 2008, and Everything I Know I Learned From My Grandpa in 2006. In July of 2009, the Texas Legislature passed a resolution to honor him for his professional achievements. Sorenson's sense of humor is often evident in his paintings of horses, cowboys, and children. He sees himself as a story-teller and thinks his great paintings should tell a story by involving the viewer. Sorenson’s creative works are sold by many galleries, with several of them selling ready to install canvas, laminated, or framed Jack Sorenson art.
