John Singer Sargent (January 12, 1856 – April 14, 1925) was born to American parents although he got his training in Paris, France, before moving to London. After receiving his training, he delved into art making, particularly portraits. As a portrait painter, his works had their fair share of controversies and were criticized by several critics. Sargent submission of his art "Portrait of Madame X" to the very strict Paris Salon resulted badly, although the intention was to make a statement about his artistic standing. The fact that there are times he used to create drawings using brushes was later to be admired while at the same time criticized in some quarters for their lack of detail. Although he did several portraits, he also created several paintings on diverse subjects, including landscapes. Because of his nature of paintings and the process he used to create them, the works could easily be associated with impressionism. Later in life, he did a lot more of creating murals and en plein air. Though he was an American painter, most of his life he lived in Europe. The quality of his artistic works saw him considered the greatest portrait art creator of his time. He created art using different media, including 900 oil paintings and above 2000 watercolor art pieces, making him an equally great artist in terms of the amount of work produced. These were besides the charcoal drawn artwork pieces and sketches. His artwork pieces have been displayed widely and are in several collections globally. To date, there are numerous John Singer Sargent framed art in galleries that one can purchase for interior decoration.
