Dean Russo was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was inspired by the urban landscape in which he was born and by his love of dogs. He creates colorful, vibrant animal portraits that are as unique and vivid as the pets’ personalities. Dean Russo attended The School of Visual Arts and Pratt Institute in New York City. His education coupled with his background in graphic and fine arts are what have led to his unique style. He uses a minimum of ten mediums per painting and his art includes everything from pencils, pastels, spray cans, graphite and collage, wax, sharpies, mixed media, liquid acrylics, charcoal, and more. He prefers to work on canvas. In addition Dean Russo’s rich use of bold graphic style and mixed media, what makes his portraits most striking is his uncanny ability to look into the eyes of a dog or a cat and accurately capture their expressiveness on canvas.
