Walter Robertson (Born in 1750) was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was miniaturists and copperplate engraver. He went bankrupt as an artist working in London, so in 1793 he sailed to America with Gilbert Stuart, his friend and artist. Robertson settled in Philadelphia, where he started painting miniature copies of Stuart’s portraits. He also did with his own original miniatures of George Washington. Some refer to Robertson as the Irish Robertson. This is to distinguish him from the Scottish miniaturists Alexander Robertson, Andrew and Archibald. He left America for India after 1796.
