Julia Purinton’s paintings begin when a landscape resonates with her own psychological or emotional experience. She works from sketches and photographs in the studio over a period that may extend to months. By utilizing a familiar vernacular of landscape imagery, Julia explores psychological growth and passage; releasing regret, accepting loss and finding joy. She strives to produce images that evoke memories and senses of moment. Fine artist and muralist, she’s interested in distilling specific details of landscape without descriptive intent but with a narrative. Julia loves a small rural village in Vermont and also the gentle landscape of north shore Boston. Both these places provide her with plenty of material for her suggestive paintings of landscapes. She refers to her studio in Massachusetts as “potting shed, dog kennel, sanctuary and mud room." Julia produces her art in a variety of finishing options; the most popular being the framed Julia Purinton art which come ready to hang with all the required accessories. She works in glaze, Venetian plaster, acrylics, and oils. These media give her art a luminous glow comparable to the works of Winslow Homer, Maxfield Parish, and the Brandywine River School painters who are her influencers. Julia feels a rewarding sensation when the viewers are drawn to her images through recognition of the feeling of a place. She uses numerous layers of glaze to create perfect balance and atmospheric moods for her landscapes. The result is the wide acceptance of her art by museums, individuals and private and public collectors.
