Christine O’Brien was born in Philadelphia. From 1993 to 1995, he studied Advanced Acrylic and Oil Painting at UCLA, Los Angeles, CA; from 1978 and 1982, he studied for his bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design in Stephens College, Columbia, MO; and in 1983, he studied Advanced Illustration at Chicago Academy of Art, Chicago, IL. Her passion for painting and drawing started at age 5 after helping her mother to render portraits of her siblings. Currently, Christine works and lives in California and is collected throughout the United States and abroad. At UCLA, she completed a painstaking program of classical instruction. She has exhibited in Canoga Art Center, West Hills, CA, Jack Sutton Gallery, New Orleans, LA, Colony Gallery, Burbank, CA, and Artist Alley, Calabasas Swim and Tennis Club, CA. Her final project at the college, a 5-ft square mixed media portrait can be seen in the college’s reception area and is also appearing in the curriculum catalog. Framed Christine O’Brien art is also found in many buildings in the college and in many galleries and art museums around the world. Christine believes in creating paintings that instill a message of calm realism. She uses references from both photography and life to render concepts with spatial but strong relationships, many layers of intricate brushwork and subtle gradations of color. Her inspirations for imagery come from her surroundings, such as he browsing local resale shops and the coastal terrain of California for nostalgic collectables. She has developed a unique style that she uses to create tranquil yet striking scenes of reality.
