Kim Norlien was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Most of his childhood summers were spent up at the lake with his extended family and grandparents in rural Minnesota. He graduated in 1977 from Minneapolis Community College. After his graduation he worked for Honeywell as a commercial artist for 8 years. His duties did not offer much of a creative outlet for him. So in 1986, Norlien decided to resign from his position and he became a freelance illustrator. National companies were drawn to his creativity and the high quality of his work. This led to a variety of commissions that helped develop further his artistic skills. This also allowed Norlien to begin painting fine art, though on a part-time basis, with his first print being "Winter's Glory." This was self-published in 1991. Today, he’s an award-winning wildlife artist whose scenes attract viewers to calmly gaze upon wildlife in their natural state. Also captivating are his evocative pieces, which capture the simplicity and joy of days gone by. His passion for art is only exceeded by his love for his family and friends and by his faith in God. Norlien has been married for more than 35 years to Lori, his high school sweetheart. The couple has four adult children and four grandchildren. Whether it is architecture, wildlife or landscape, his paintings are painstakingly researched to ensure that every detail comes out. Framed Kim Norlien art can testify to this effort, and they are highly priced by many discerning collectors.
