Nish Nalbandian is an American photographer currently based in Istanbul. His photographs of the war in Syria and of Syria refugees in Turkey have been published by The Human Rights Watch World Report, The Los Angeles Times, and The New Yorker, among other places. Nalbandian was drawn to document the violent situation in Syria because of the history of his grandfather who was also a refugee of the Armenian genocide. His editorial photography is focused with keenness for the humanity in the subject. His art is suitable for a range of documentary, NGO, and editorial outlets. Nalbandian has photographed in close to 40 countries worldwide, and in a wide variety of environments and situations from sporting events to wars, from luxury resorts to back alleys, and from remote deserts to cities. He has received several honors including ‘Best Portrait Series’ Award, American Photography Award, New York Photo Festival, 2014 Kontinent Awards (Honorable Mention), Nominated, Black-and-White Spider Awards, First Prize, International Photography Awards (IPA) Best in Show Exhibition, IPA, Gold Medal, P3X, Silver Medal, ND Awards, ND Awards (Honorable Mention), Human Rights Watch, Small Arms Survey, and Vocativ Article.
