J. Howard Miller (Born in 1918) was inspired by the work of Realist and Americana artist Norman Rockwell. When he entered the United States entered the Second World War, Miller was still a young man. Many men left factory jobs and the women took over these jobs. The success of the war effort depended on these women, and Miller became popular for his portrayals of the work these women did. Miller graduated in 1939 from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. During the war, he lived in Pittsburgh. He worked as a coordinating committee artist for Westinghouse War Production, and he created a series of posters that aided in the war effort as instructed by the company. This was after his work came to the attention of the Company. Miller continued with the company until the end of the war before he faded from the eye of the public living a quiet life away from art until his death in 2004. Miller is much known for his poster "We Can Do It!" the poster on a UPI picture taken of Doyle Geraldine working at a factory. The poster came to be known as “Rosie”, though at the time of its release the name was not associated with the picture. The name “Rosie” came when the poster was rediscovered in the United States National Archives after 1982. The piece has since appeared on coffee mugs, shirts, and thousands of other collectibles. It has attracted much attention, just like the framed J. Howard Miller art which can be found in almost all corners of the world.
