Rene Francois Ghislain Magritte (November 21, 1898 – August 15, 1967) was a Belgian artist who practiced surrealist art. He creates a type of artwork that fall under surrealism that’s known to be thought provoking pieces that challenge the common perceptions about reality. Magritte’s creative artwork pieces are known to use simple graphics that represent the daily things of life. Before he made widespread forays in art, he created ads and wallpapers. In 1926, he got hired by Galerie 'Le Centaure' in Brussels to create art, a commitment that saw him start painting full time. It was also in 1926 that Magritte produced his very first surreal painting. It's in Paris that he started doing a lot more of surrealistic works some of which were exhibited in different global locations, including the U.S. Magritte grew in fame in the 1960s with several of his artistic works falling under pop, conceptual, and minimalist art.
