Hilke MacIntyre (Born in 1964) was born in Germany and was raised up near Kiel (North Germany). She studied in Kiel at the College of Art & Architecture. In 1996 she decided to move to Scotland where she resides to date and divides her time between printmaking, painting and producing ceramic reliefs. In her work, she uses a simplified figurative style with strong abstract pattern. She’s influenced by many things, but her particular influences are contemporary design, European art of the early 20th Century, and 'primitive' art. Her limited edition ceramic reliefs are made in editions of 50. In her studio viewers will find several framed Hilke MacIntyre art of different sizes. She says that a single image can move on a creative path that takes on a life of its own. That path carries her along, and she builds on it until the creative journey ends. In her work, there’s usually a light side, and a fun, humorous side with playful images of her subjects. She has exhibited her art at Bircham Gallery, Ola Gorie, Orkneys, Stneton Gallery nr Edinburgh, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh, Eton Applied Arts Windsor, Visual Arts Scotland, Edinburgh, Pittenweem Arts Festival, Queen Gallery, Aberdeen, Attic Gallery, Swansea, Art Exposure Gallery, Glasgow, Bircham Gallery, Holt Norfolk, and Cambridge Contemporary Art, Cambridge, to name but a few. Hilke enjoys using strong patterns and colors and bold shapes and works in a simplified figurative style. Her work describes simplicity of her subjects as they exist in reality.
