Megan Lightell (Born 1979) was born and raised in Ohio in the rural Coshocton County. She says that wherever she lives, she will always be painting. After getting his B.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts and after spending a few years in New York, she was ready for a return to the natural environment, and her work took an unexpected turn to landscape; ever since this subject has felt like home to her. Her work explores the intricate, personal relationship that human beings have with land. Her imagery tends to lack elements that are manmade, allowing the viewer to experience a moment of solitude and reflection. In an increasingly technology-reliant and fast-paced culture, the simple, basic connection of human beings to land that sustains life is easily lost. Megan enjoys working with the traditional materials of canvas and oil but approaches each image with a modern sensibility. She has held many solo exhibitions in various locations including River Gallery, Chattanooga, Zeitgeist Gallery, Nashville, Aliya Linstrum, Atlanta, Hanson Gallery, Knoxville, Nashville International Airport, Michael Orr Gallery, Columbus, and Belle Meade Gallery, Nashville. Framed Megan Lightell art can be found in many collections and galleries around the world. Much of the focus of her life is on a connection to land, either in tending her family's urban farm or in painting. Since she has a school-age daughter, most of her painting work is done during school hours. Her art can be found in collections of Martha Ingram, OMS Records, Kix and Barbara Brooks, The Turner Family Foundation, just to mention a few.
