Robert LaDuke (Born 1961) enjoys creating narratives with numerous meanings in his art. He imagines that, a certain humorous but dark tone underlies his cartoon-like illustrative surfaces. LaDuke has been drawing since his childhood. He can remember vividly drawing old cars, particularly those that were appearing in the Life magazine advertisements. Although visually realism often dominates his work, it is in fact just providing a frame of reference to an end that’s metaphoric. LaDuke received his bachelor of fine arts degree in 1994 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His art has been exhibited at various locations including The Torana Art League, Irvine Fine Arts Center, Irvine, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Pacific Art Foundation, Newport Beach, Sue Greenwood Fine Art, Laguna Beach, Leslie Levy Fine Arts, Scottsdale, Mendenhall-Sobieski Gallery, Pasadena, Kidder Smith Gallery, Boston, Diane Nelson Fine Art Gallery, Laguna Beach, and Mendenhall Gallery, Pasadena, among others. These exhibitions have made framed Robert LaDuke art to be very popular. LaDuke bases his acrylic paintings on the American transportation of the 1930s and 40s. The paintings feature toys which were popular during that era. His art is pretty much transportation oriented, ships, trains, trailers, cars, everything that floats or rolls and they always have that nostalgic 1940s look to them. His art has been published in American Art Collector, Southwest Art, Juxtapoz, Hot Chicks and Cool Rides, Communication Arts Magazine, New American Paintings, Artweek, and LA Weekly. One of his major influences is Rockwell Norman who was known for his depictions of American life in idyllic style.
