Kelly Johnston is an artist based in Washington. The skies and waters surrounding the San Juan archipelago and the Bainbridge Island provide endless inspiration for his landscape-based paintings. She has held exhibitions at Anthropologie, Seattle, The Bloedel Reserve, Bainbridge Island, Bainbridge Performing Arts Gallery, Bainbridge Island Public Library, Ghost Gallery for Rocco's, Seattle, West Elm, Seattle, Mainframe Gallery, Decorist and Porch, Seattle, Mighty Tieton Warehouse, Ghost Gallery for Stylus Salon, among others. She fascinated by color and light and is continually inspired by nature – the water, the sky, the light, etc. she says that these elements unite us and are the basis for our very existence. In her art, loosely dripping paint and bold color combine to try to be like the interaction of sunlight on the surface of water as well as the abstract qualities of sky and clouds. Working with water soluble oils, she uses fluid brushstrokes, atmospheric depth and swirls of color to evoke sunlit spaces. Her paintings are an attempt to capture the beauty found when the elements of nature converge. She’s especially known for painting landscapes, specifically water and skies, as they are recognizable universally – something anyone can connect and relate to. Kelly holds a BFA in Painting from the University of Washington. She wanted to create everything by hand rather than using a computer, so she switched from Graphic Design to Studio Art at the university. Today, framed Kelly Johnston art are much sought after because they can be used to decorate any space.
