Rob Johnson knew from a very young age that he wanted to be an artist. He used to fill his free time doing artwork and studying the works of prominent artists. His talent was noticed early enough by his family and they supported his every endeavor. His grandmother and his father were of great help to him. In fact, his grandmother entered him in many art contests, while his father helped him paint murals on his bedroom walls. Johnson went ahead and studied art at the Art Institute of Seattle. Today he works as a professional artist and is based in Washington State. Starting with an illustration board, he begins by applying gesso to create texture. He then transfers his drawing then uses a matt medium to seal it. Johnson then adds burnt sienna watercolor and a generous coat of sepia, which allows the drawing to be visible through the paint. He then lets the painting to dry before erasing the highlights with Windex and water until he pulls the desired contrast. Using an airbrush, he punches the darker areas of shadows, and smoothes out the hard edges. To add texture, the artist applies one more coat of matt medium. He then leaves the painting to dry overnight. Once the painting is dry, he uses airbrush, acrylic paint, and colored pencil to add the finer details. The piece is then sealed using a clear coat. This brings out the colors and protects the painting. His art is mainly availed as framed Rob Johnson art.
