J. B. Jeffrey (Born in 1953) is an American visual artist, writer and designer. Jeffrey is an iconic photographer who has become famous for his unique style. His artwork is so widely recognized as to have become synonymous with the state of California itself and has established him as one of the county’s most popular photographers. He combines a painter’s sensitivity to light, color, and composition with an architect’s love of pattern, texture and geometry. Jeffrey’s purity of composition and color has had a significant influence on the feel and form of contemporary photography, reflected today in the current trend for low set horizons and luminous pigments. Jeffrey’s pieces of artwork are much sought after and are highly priced by many private and corporate collectors. Today, framed J. B. Jeffrey art can be found in many public as well as private institutions all over the world. Jeffrey, together with his partner, Sally Aberg, has authored two award winning books: Maya Color: The Painted Villages of Mesoamerica, and Mediterranean Color (both from Abbeville Press, New York). He spent 10 years creating his series of photographs on the Mediterranean, which he collected in the book Mediterranean Color. He then embarked on a journey photographing throughout Central America and Mexico to document the traditions of the living Maya that he represented in the second book Maya Color. In April 2009, his work was featured in the inaugural issue of COLOR Magazine. He has had several museum and gallery exhibitions, including at the Weston Gallery and at the Verve Gallery of Photography.
