Getty Images (founded in 2005) was founded by Jonathan Klein and Mark Getty, who’s the chairman. The duo wanted to turn the then fragmented and disjointed stock photography market into a modernized and thriving industry that’s able to meet the changing needs of visual communicators. Today, it boasts more than 50,000 hours of stock film footage and an archive of 80 million still illustrations and images. It targets three markets: corporate (in-house design, communication and marketing departments), the media (online and print publishing), and creative professionals (graphic design and advertising). Getty Images was the first company to license imagery via the web. It moved the entire industry online and has continued to drive the industry forward with digital media management tools, breakthrough licensing models, and a comprehensive offering of editorial and creative imagery, footage music and microstock. Based in Seattle, Washington, United States, Getty Images supplies stock images for consumers and businesses all over the world. It has distribution offices all over the world and capitalizes on CD-ROM collections and the Internet for distribution. Today, it’s among the world’s leading distributors and creators of award-winning music, video, still imagery and multimedia products, and other forms of digital content, available through its house of brands, including Thinkstock© and iStock©. The art is availed in a variety of finishing options including framed Getty Images art. Getty Images has an aggressive programme of acquisition, and by 1999 it had acquired Tony Stone Images, one of the largest agencies, and Art.com, the online art seller.
