Michael Humphries Art

Michael Humphries knew from an early age that art would be his passion in life. He’s a background artist who was first know for his work on movies films in The Super Globetrotters, A Flintstone Christmas and Pac-Man. He was also known for his work on several Hanna-Barbara TV series. Humphries began his professional art career at Walt Disney Studios where he painted backgrounds on such films as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Lion King and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Michael Humphries was Art Director on Fantasia 2000, and just recently he was the Production Designer for Open Season of Sony Pictures. After 30 years as an artist and art director for film, he is sharing his personal vision in print, and he is finding it to be the most challenging but rewarding experience as a visual artist. As an exciting new project, he has worked on and published a book titled "Visual Storytelling" for Focal Press. What fascinates Humphries is the essence of what makes up the American landscape: from the simplicity of an old wooden garden bench with the paint peeling and cracked to the solitude of a deserted farmhouse or barn. He’s also inspired and intrigued by the sometimes overlooked details in nature. For example, the way light is reflected off an old watering can is just as compelling to him as the grandest of landscapes. To Humphries, finding new ways of presenting and interpreting objects in people’s lives that seem mundane and ordinary is his joy.
