Karen Hollingsworth (Born 1955) is known for her dreamlike arrangements of subject matter. She selects her subjects carefully so they are able to “speak” to the viewer and to one another. In many of her painted interior spaces, Karen includes open windows that act as portals into an imagined world. Her WindowScapes therefore beckon the viewers with the apparent movement of air between a tranquil domestic interior and the beauty of beguiling landscapes that exist just beyond the window. For her, a painting is not only about aesthetics but it is also about the feeling it evokes. Karen likes to blend a glimpse of the ocean through an open window with the common objects of everyday life placed within the interior of a room. Although there are no figures present in her paintings, it is difficult to deny the implications of vacant beds and chairs. These entities suggest a human presence that often makes the experience personal to viewers. She’s trying to recreate the experience of a room bathed in strong sunlight, and transforms simple human things, paper bags, chairs, beds, etc into objects of beauty. Karen has been so fortunate because she’s surrounded by fellow artists and wonderful friends who have supported and inspired her; especially her loving husband and favorite artist, Neil. She looks to the future, and of course her next painting. Her life as an artist is wonderful, and very fulfilling. Karen holds an Associate Degree from DeKalb College. She also studied Drawing and Painting at the Atlanta College of Art, and Portraiture Study and Nancy Honea. Framed Karen Hollingsworth art are highly priced by many discerning collectors.
