Robin Renee Hix was born in the Rio Grande Valley. She has been influenced by Mexico since her first trip to the Mexican border at age 5. Robin believes she is a “callejera with a camera.” in Spanish, this denotes a person who likes to wander the streets. She captures unique culture and unexpected street image; her black and white images are diverse. Robin photographs landscapes, town, beach as well as people who live in these places. In her Texas hill-country studio, she usually over-paints her photographs transforming them to finely detailed, brilliantly colored images. Unfortunately, during the epic flooding of Sunday, May 23, 2015, Robin's studio, home and livelihood were devastated. She lives on a ridge above Blanco River in Wimberley, TX. The river exceeded the peak of the roof and destroyed almost everything in the house. In addition to all her two vehicles and household items, Robin lost 30 years of her artwork including current frames and artwork, photographic slides, images and negatives, her cameras, printing supplies and darkroom, and dozens of art supplies, art books, computers and business records. In fact she lost everything she needs to support herself as a working artist. Luckily she was not home at the time of the flooding and her turtle Amarillo as well as her beloved pet, a 41 year old tortoise (Darohl) were found under the debris. Robin is hoping to salvage her home and rebuild her garage. Her already completed works that had been sold out can be found in many art galleries and with both corporate and private collectors. Several galleries stock Robin Renee Hix framed art ready for use in diverse settings.
