Jocelyn Haybittel was born in South Africa. She loved art from a young age because she was born into an artistic family. She must have inherited her artistic talent from her father who was a painter and a fisherman. Her father often took paints, brushes and an easel along with his fishing gear.  As he waited for the fish to take a bite of the bait, he would thoroughly enjoy capturing the landscape on watercolor paper or canvas. Her fascination with art, especially fashion, started when she was in art school – Jocelyn hung out with the other learners from the fashion design department and this drew her closer to fashion design and she became really interested in how clothes can also affect one’s emotions and how trends develop. While she was sketching her friends were sewing. She got the idea for designing wedding dresses in watercolors because she knew that most brides would look at 100s of dresses before they settle on the right one. And in spite of the 1000s of videos and photographs being taken on the wedding day, to have a work that’s hand painted to commemorate this very special day takes it a step further and is something they would really cherish. Every project brings her a different client with fresh ideas and she produces her art mainly as framed Jocelyn Haybittel art. The galleries and museums are a constant source of influences and ideas. She says it’s exciting to explore the unique aesthetic of each client so as to produce what they would easily accept and associate with.
