Jennifer Harwood was born in London, Ontario, where she was also raised. She now resides in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Jennifer attended Emily Carr College of Arts and Design and took classes in composition, drawing and color - though she in primarily a self-taught artist. She had an interest in visual arts at a young age. This drove her to join Simon Fraser University where she studied and received a BA in Contemporary Dance. She has performed in Vancouver and across Canada and has had the opportunity to spend time in London, studying her craft.
She did not stop there; her artistic journey led her to take a diploma in Graphic Design. She worked in the real estate industry but due to her desire to get back into visual art, she got involved with the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Vancouver Art Guild. She is now an associate member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. The most enjoyable part of painting for Jennifer is the experience of putting paint and brush to canvas. Jennifer’s chosen subject is the environment around her. The flowers in her own backyard and West coast landscapes have been her primary focus. However, for Jennifer, the subject is secondary to painterly questions that are central to her image-making process. Where does the line come down between abstraction and figuration? When does a simple geometric form become a recognizable object? The artist takes these questions on with colorful charm and wit. Jennifer has exhibited her work both the in United States and British Columbia for over a decade. Her creative pieces can be found in different galleries, with many of them stocking Jennifer Harwood framed art ready for dispatch to customers. Many of these galleries avail these art pieces in a variety of finishing options, including lamination and prints.
