Paul Hargittai (Born in 1923) is a nationally and internationally acknowledged painter and textile designer residing in Paris. He was born in Budapest, Hungary and spent his childhood and youth in there. He was raised up in a loving family, and in his childhood, he was supported and given opportunity to pursue his interests. He began to draw and paint regularly and could even illustrate his nursery tales. In his early teens, he studied lithography and practiced drawing from models. His plan was to be an ornithologist so he could draw birds. From 1943 to 1947, Hargittai studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. Upon completion of his studies he started the successful beginning of his career by becoming a textile designer and graphic artist. He started in Rome, and then moved to New York, where he worked for twelve years. He finally went on to Florence and Paris where he currently has his studio. Hargittai speaks the international language of fine arts as well as English, Hungarian, Italian and French, while maintaining bonds to his Hungarian culture. His studio is found in the heart of Paris where he produces the beautiful framed Paul Hargittai art, and gains much inspiration. In 1951 Hargittai moved and became involved in various fields and projects, including illustrating for books of poetry by T.S. Elliot. He is also a designer of jewelry and was also teaching design at Columbia University. From 1948 to 1951 his work was on display in Rome where he won numerous awards.
