Mari Giddings (born 1959) was born in Washington, D.C. She is a contemporary artist who grew up in Maryland, New York and then studied art with Allen Dutton and Meryl Mahaffey at Phoenix College in Arizona. In 1984, Mari earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Arizona State University, where she worked under master printers, such as Wayne Kimball and Dan Britten. Just two years after her graduation, Mari became chief assistant to Robert A. Devoe, a master printer at the Phoenix Art Press. Soon she opened her own studio in the Verde Valley in northern Arizona where she happily painted landscapes. In 1991 she moved back to Phoenix and became the Art Director of Phoenix Art Press. Mari explains that the best art helps break down perceptions that are so taken for granted, that are so deeply ingrained that they seem real. For her, successful art destroys the obvious connections by which people construct their realities and make new connections. In 1995 she co-founded the Planet Art Group in Phoenix, Arizona. She works in a variety of styles, from cubist abstraction to naturalistic landscapes.
She believes that art allows people to conceptualize subjective experience then turn it into an object that can be shared. Mari’s artwork is extremely elegant and reflects the color tones of the places she has visited. Framed Mari Giddings art is currently much sought after by many leading private and corporate collectors. That’s why her art, prints, posters and paintings are found in numerous private and corporate collections, including those of America West and GTE-Sylvania. She now directs the Willow Art Group in Phoenix, Arizona.
