F.W. Frohawk (1861 - 1946) was born in Norfolk. He was a lepidopterist and zoological artist who worked and was active in England. In June 1895, he married Grant Margaret and they spent the honeymoon in the New Forest. Unfortunately, his wife died in 1907 and left him to take care of their two daughters. Two years later, he married Mabel Bowman Jane Hart and they had a third daughter. He was the author of Varieties of British Butterflies, The Complete Book of British Butterflies and Natural History of British Butterflies. In 1891, Frohawk became a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society and in 1926, he was made a Special Life Fellow. Being the youngest child in the family, Frohawk’s interest in natural history and drawing was nurtured by his mother. When he was 7 years old, he spotted and caught a rare species of butterfly that had pale clouded yellow color. This is what ignited his passion for butterflies. His family moved to Great Yarmouth where they stayed for some years and later they moved to Ipswich where he found many mesmerizing butterflies. His art is admired by many because of the unique style that he uses to produce them. They look very realistic and makes the viewers feel as if they have actually seeing the subjects he presents. He also admired the works of many leading artists of the past, and was particularly fascinated by the somber colors and menacing texture so evident in their paintings. The framed F.W. Frohawk art have become so popular and are stocked in large numbers by collectors.
