Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Robert A. Fleming obtained his formal art training at Miami University in Ohio. The artist has been “entertaining” for 5 decades now to the delight of his viewers. He uses the wet-in-wet technique in which his original watercolors have a spontaneous and fresh feeling, with the majority of his subjects painted in the Southwest and exhibited there. About half of his watercolors are created on location surrounded by blooming cactus and peaceful desert scenes. Fleming began his painting career in Kansas City at Hallmark Cards. Here he was engaged in designing gift-wraps, cards and books. He also worked as a graphic designer for a long time in television in Oakland, CA at KTVU. In his first week at Hallmark, he got to see a watercolor demonstration by John Pike and he says that day he got hooked when John told the audience that their “paintings need to entertain.” He has worked hard and received numerous awards including poster artist for the Borrego Springs Art Show and 1st Place-Watercolor, Southwest Arts Festival, Indio, CA. Fleming now spends his time going to art shows in the Southwest. In 2008, he had his historical golf painting accepted into the Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida. The painting was based on the 1913 United States Open. Framed Robert A. Fleming art is in many galleries and collections around the world. They are highly priced by many collectors not only because they are attractive but are also because they are inspiring.
