Since being a businessman was not his interest, and because he had very little training, he decided to become a miniature painter. Together with his brother Paul, they spent some time at Lyon, save for the time they left for Paris in 1829 and studied under Louis Hersent. Flandrin plunged himself in the arts industry and never looked back again. He got an opportunity to work and study at Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres’ studio.
