David Fisher (1946 – 2013) was a prolific painter and designer of pub signs before he secured a commission to create large murals to improve UK service stations. The project took 10 years and he created 14 murals which were placed at Membury services, Hartshead Moor services, Woodall services, Michaelwood services, Sedgemoor services, Abington services, London Heathrow Terminal 4, Gretna Green, Dover Eastern Docks, Pease Pottage services, Newport Pagnell services, and at Copdock, Ipswich. Some of the murals measured more than 8 feet high and 60 feet in length. He set a decorative theme for each site depending on its location. The themes included local battles, local attractions, and historical events. At only 15 years of age, Fisher served an apprenticeship as a decorator and sign writer for F. Speed and Sons Midsomer Norton. From 1966 o 1970, he attended the School of Creative Arts in Bristol before he became self-employed as a freelance designer and artist. Fischer won a 2008 portrait competition by the Holburne Museum of Arts with his Dead Man Posing portrait which depicted Philip Ledbury, an artist from Frome who had been diagnosed with leukemia. His prize was a £5,000 commission for a portrait to be added to the portraiture collection of Holburne. Today, framed David Fisher art are much sought after by many leading collectors because he attended many art exhibitions to popularize his art. Some of the exhibitions he attended include Rook Lane Chapel, Frome, Royal United Hospital, The Gallery, Stourhead, Bel-Ami Gallery, Devon, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Holburne Museum of Art, Bath, Wells and Mendip Museum, the Mall Galleries, London, and the Royal West of England Academy Autumn Exhibition.
