Ed Feingersh (born 1924) was born in Brooklyn. Like many artists he loved art from a tender age, and when he joined Haaren High School in Manhattan, he majored in art. Later he was enlisted in the German Army and that’s when he took up photography. He bought an inexpensive 35-mm camera and started shooting. After the war, he attended New York University, of course, with the assistance of the G.I. Bill. At the University, he joined the camera club and became an active member. He later enrolled for the Alexey Brodovitch's photography course. During this period he worked as an assistant to Gjon Mili and gained a lot of experience. The photographs he took for the course and the experience he gained helped him to secure a job with Pix Publishing photo agency in 1948. At the photo agency he worked alongside the agency photographers, including Garry Winogrand, Bob Henriquez, Larry Fried, Bob Schwalberg, George Zimbel, Robert and Cornell Capa, Eileen Darby (Lester), Jerry Cooke, George Karger, and Alfred Eisenstaedt. For the photo agency, he produced stories for major magazines in addition to covering a squadron's night fighter mission over Greenland and making a portrait series of Albert Schweitzer in New York. Feingersh enjoyed a lot of publicity that made his art to be very popular, even today, ready to hang framed Ed Feingersh art are in great demand all over the world, and are found in many collections. Feingersh died in his sleep in the morning of 21, June 1961.
