Patrick Farrell (Born 1940) was born in Hardwood, Mich. He was the youngest of 4 children born to Ira and Carmen Farrell. His family moved to Cudahy, where his mother fell ill and was hospitalized for years. His father hardly had time to keep a watchful eye on him because he was worried about his mother’s health and the family's finances. Troubled by these problems, Farrell decided to stop going to school at age 14. He spent a lot of time in movie theaters. Lots of days he also went to the Boston Store to just ride the elevators up and down all day. Farrell became so obsessed with the ladies of the silver screen and this later inspired a whole series of his paintings. He worked as an errand boy and a busboy for a record distribution firm and got his own apartment at the age of 17. Then he started painting landscapes and still lifes to cover the walls - without ever taking an art class. After having lived most of his life in a one-bedroom house trailer, with the shower in a public building in the trailer park, he was proud of having his own place. He displayed some of his woodcuts and paintings in an art fair at Capitol Court and he managed to sell some of the woodcuts; but what made him feel even better was that people were actually relating to something he had created. He was very much encouraged and decided to produce more and more pieces of artwork, many of which can be seen as framed Patrick Farrell art in many art stores.
