Shepard Fairey (February 15, 1970) is a renowned artist who creates murals, graphic art, and paintings. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina. Fairey became quite fascinated with art as a young adult and would soon start creating drawings in skateboards and T-shirts. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, having earned it in 1992. During his school days, he worked part-time at a skateboarding shop. Fairey would later realize that he has something for street art and the graffiti movement. He found an image of Andre the Giant in a newspaper and decided to use it, introducing it to the streets. Fairey remains quite a respected artist and several of his creative artworks have been used in stickers, collages, screen-prints, posters, murals, and more. His artistic works have switched between different artistic styles, including fine art, commercial art, and street art. He also creates political art. Some of his most celebrated artwork pieces are Barack Obama poster, the Obey trademark, and Andre the Giant, and several others. He also has different elements of pop art, business art, graffiti, and Marxist theory. Fairey’s artistic works are available in diverse galleries globally and have been used for diverse reasons. His Barack Obama portrait earned Brit Insurance Design of the Year Award in the year 2009. Some of the places where he's held solo exhibitions include Birmingham, Merry Karnosky Gallery in Los Angeles, Capsule, England in 2000, and more.
