DawArt is the brainchild of Alicia VanNoy Call who was born in Germany and raised in sunny Arizona. Alicia was a self-taught artist in her early life until 2003 when she started working on DawgArt. She has since obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Utah Valley University, where she graduated with honors, and has also gained a decade of experience in arts. Alicia works primarily in acrylic on canvas and also dabbles in dry media, photography and the written word. Alicia takes the colorful inspiration for her paintings from the Desert Southwest with its beautiful sceneries. She works with various shelter and rescue groups by donating her artworks to fundraising auctions to promote awareness and direct care for animals in need. She lives in Arizona with her family and their rescued pets, Kiko, Toby, and Eric. Alicia says she is fascinated by the connection she shares with animals. Every time she puts brush to canvas, she explores her connection to the animal kingdom and nature. Alicia believes that our use of technology tends to disconnect us from the natural world, the most important being our relationship with animals. She says that nature has the power to transform our lives, and the animals connect us to that power through their character, beauty and innocence. That’s why she attempts to capture that connection and joy through her artwork. As she paints with her bright arbitrary colors, she conveys the soul of the animals onto the canvas. And that’s what DawgArt is all about. It’s meant simply to bring happiness to people and to help them remember their connection with nature.
