After graduating from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Julia Contacessi moved to Norwalk. Her heart is into photography, painting and all things to do with design. A contemporary abstract artist, Julia explains her process as a combination of both subconscious and conscious exploration. She focuses on composition, texture and color, and strives to deliver a feel-good effect in every one of her pieces of art. The canvas yields to her will, and she knows she has just begun to capture something meaningful when she has to catch her breath. It is wonderful and fascinating, while at the same time Julia says it’s a struggle. That’s why she paints. Her single-minded style is focused on the simplicity of beauty in the moment, and her goal is to drown out the clutter and noise to find a sense of calm. Her art is strongly influenced by Helen Frankenthaler, and the end result is fresh, clean and modern. Julia has won many awards including Best of Houzz 2015 Award, ArtSlant Showcase and Minted x West Elm 3rd Art Challenge, Minted x Domino Art Print Challenge, among others. The artist strives to delivers a feel-good, atmospheric effect in every piece she creates.
