Durwood Coffey (Born in 1951) found his natural enjoyment and attraction in the creation of images from the animal kingdom. Throughout his years in school, he found his true passion in animals and always excelled in art classes. Soon after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he became a Combat Artist. He served his term of duty after which he attended college and majored in Illustration and Fine Art. In only a few years after his birth, he would pick up paper and pencil and begin to draw. He followed in the footsteps of his childhood heroes such as Norman Rockwell, N.C. Wyeth and Howard Pyle. Working under and living in the urban Detroit where the need for and practice of wildlife art was not highly in demand, he found it a challenge raising a family and being a provider. His success depended on his ability to produce artwork that was standing out and in a wide variety of subject matter, ranging from trucks, cars, cartoons, architecture, portraits and landscapes. . Coffey felt it was imperative to go back to painting the subjects that he most cherished as a child. Coffey kept his artistic skills and vision honed in this business environment until a day in which he could let them loose upon the personal subjects of his choice. The demand for his art grew with time and his client base expanded. Even today, his art is sold all over the world. They are available in a variety of finishing options including the ready to hang Durwood Coffey art.
