André Bourrie (Born 1936) was born in Montpellier, France. He’s a distinguished landscape and maritime artist. He’s one of foremost contemporary masters in France. Bourrie bears the peculiarity of French Navy’s official Painter, and he has received innumerable awards, including the prestigious “Salon de la Marine” Gold Medal and of the “Salon des Artistes Francais” Gold medal. Bourrie was abandoned by both his mother and his father. He therefore lived alone until an uncle placed him in an orphanage. Such a harsh period proved critical to his maturity and was the most important influence in his becoming an artist. He developed an affinity for his immediate surroundings during this period, “listening to a place and a moment in time.” These intuitive characteristics are today reflected in all his paintings. He had to face life squarely. Without parental guidance and security, Bourrie found joy and solace on forms, textures, colors and light. With such a melancholic start in life, it’s not a coincidence that he became a self-taught artist. In his adolescence, he worked as a ceramist, but later gave up on this after a philanthropist offered to provide him with a formal education. He went in search of a career with more of an artistic angle. Bourrie immersed himself in the world of creations and artists, sharing styles and ideas. Today, his art, especially the framed André Bourrie art are highly priced by many discriminating collectors. He works as a decorative painter and has devoted his leisure time to painting and drawing “for himself.”
