Bob Fera is an astronomical photographer. His interest in astronomy began when he was quite young; in fact he acquired his first telescope at age 12. He even went ahead and unsuccessfully, tried his hand at astrophotography around that time. This made his enthusiasm to fade for several years, but in 1990 it was rekindled when he saw published photographs taken by great photographers like Bill and Sally Fletcher, Tony and Daphne Hallas, and others. He decided he had to try his hand at astrophotography again. After a couple of years, he began traveling to the dark skies of Mt. Pinos, and Fera was fortunate to meet some of the best astrophotographers in the world. He become friends with and learned a lot from them. As an Information Technology Manager based in Tarzana, CA, Fera works for a small company called Zenith Information Systems, Inc. He has worked there since 1980 and in the course of his work, he has had to wear many hats simultaneously –system administrator, programmer, network administrator, database administrator, among others – thereby he has become proficient with many different technologies. In 1994, he settled on a Celestron C-11 after exploring a few different instrument configurations. He also settled on an Astro-Physics 1200 mount. This is a setup that has served him well for many years of film imaging. He produces his art in a variety of finishing options, among them the framed Bob Fera art which are highly priced by many discriminating collectors. He upgraded to a 1200GTO mount in 1999.
