Willow Bascom Art

Willow Bascom is an artist and an author. She grew up in Panama and Saudi Arabia and loved art from childhood. She developed lupus later on in her life and was in so much pain that all she could do was to get up out of bed and get dressed. However, due to the good fortune she had with healthcare, the disease went into remission and this allowed her to start to draw. She became a huge fan of tribal art due to her early introduction to varying cultures, and the influence of this tribal art can be seen throughout her colorful art work. Her love for indigenous art was fed by her travels around the world when she was a child. It was on that foundation that Willow allowed the influence of indigenous styles from around the world to inform her unique perspective. The basis of her distinctive style is a fabric art of the Kuna people of Panama called the mola. The diversity of her style was showcased in 2010 in her book titled Paisley Pig and Friends: A Multicultural ABC, published by Publishing Works. Willow renders the images with visible brush strokes that transform them into something more realistic. Framed Willow Bascom art run into thousands and they can be found in many galleries throughout the world. Her works haves been showcased in art galleries in Maine, Vermont and Connecticut. She produces an array of delightful high quality paintings. She always looks at different methods of creating and presenting images so that the final products are not only unique and attractive but also inspiring. Willow produces large and small prints, and several lines of bookmarks, t-shirts, and Holy Day cards.
