Mehmet Altug Art

Mehmet Altug is a master furniture craftsman and an artist who resides in Richmond, VA. He was born in the town of Mersin on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Altug has developed his own unique style. He uses a range of techniques and mediums that create a fresh look. His works have been described as a fusion of natural elements and bold organic palettes. Altug’s artistic rendering of simple objects compels his viewers to dance through his mixed up world in a state of awe and delight. Altug creates many commissioned paintings for various installations. He captures color with shapes and lights, in a constant search of exhibiting works that can talk by themselves with their own style. He has spent 25 years creating whimsical furniture which incorporates themes from his Turkish homeland and mythological imagery. Recently, he expanded his creative repertoire to include painting. As he transitioned from furniture craft to painting, a two dimensional pathway was opened to him through color and image in which he expresses a reverence for the ordinary. He owns and operates Cool Colors Gallery in Carytown. In his paintings, he builds rich images upon textured surfaces and embellishes them with burnished colors of an exotic coast. He has participated in many solo and group exhibitions that have made his art to be very popular, especially the ready to hang framed Mehmet Altug art. His art are highly priced by many collectors because of their quality. Altug creates art that’s not only meant for hanging on the wall but that which also inspires.
