Geoffrey Ansel Agrons (Born in 1954) was born in Philadelphia, PA where he currently resides. He studied at Richard Stockton State College, Pomona, NJ between 1982 and 1986, at the Medical School, Newark, NJ, and at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, NJ. In time Agrons came to recognize that the aesthetic appreciation of diagnostic images that’s unspoken is deeply entwined with the rigor of logic, anatomic analysis, and problem solving. However, he grew interested in a different relationship with photography, one that separated a vigilant interpretation from an immediate emotional response. He acquired a camera and began to explore the world beyond radiology reading room that’s darkened and confined. The still camera became his modality of choice for affective diagnostic imaging and in the process; he found respite in feeling rather than thinking. What interests him most as a photographer is the uneasy coexistence between the natural world and human populations. He’s intrigued by impermanence and transition, and favor materials that leave an unformed emotional residue that some may have forgotten something important in their inattention to the sensual realm. He supposes that most of his photographs are mementos mori, though he’s come to think of them as melancholigraphs. He has held exhibitions at SohoPhoto Gallery, New York, PhotoPlace Gallery, Middlebury, Darkroom Gallery, Essex Junction, A Smith Gallery, Johnson City, Washington Printmakers Gallery, Washington, DC, The Center for Fine Art Photography, Fort Collins, and many others. Framed Geoffrey Ansel Agrons art can be found in many outlets all over the world.
