Peter Adams has lived most of his life in Toronto. He was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. Adams studied at Queen University and has a degree in Film Studies but now directs all his creative energy toward painting. Since in 1998 when he moved to a farm near Creemore, he has spent quite a number of years exploring the surrounding landscape. He has also been exploring the ever-changing human relationship with landscape. Adams has painted mostly in oil but his most recent works are marked by a transition to mixed media. He combines paint markers, conte, oil sticks, acrylic washes, and oil paint, and these works have opened up many new expressive possibilities for him. His work is exhibited in many galleries in Ontario, and can be found in many private and public collections in North America and abroad. He produces art in a variety of finishing options, the most popular of which are the ready to hang framed Peter Adams art. Adams is a founding member of the Mad and Noisy Cooperative Gallery. Adams has been working in oils for more than 2 decades and his art has always represented a response to changes happening in his immediate surroundings. He still has instincts of a documentarian having been trained as a filmmaker. Most significantly, his move from an urban environment to a rural setting more than 10 years ago, has led him to focus much of his attention on the collapsing and abandoned structures of an evolving agricultural industry.
