Artist Meredith Abbott (Born 1938) was born in California. She’s a longtime resident of Santa Barbara. Loving art from a young age, Meredith decided to pursue a career as an artist and spent her first year of college at Scripps College in Claremont, CA. Meredith returned to Santa Barbara to take care of his father who fell ill. During these years, she studied under Douglass Parshall who was local artist. This is how she met Clarence Hinkle and Richard S. Meryman and studied under them. Clarence maintained a studio on the Riviera. Meredith remembers with a lot of fondness visiting Clarence and painting alongside him at his home. Meredith says it was a very beautiful studio—very tidy and pristine, and she painted while standing on a tarp that covered the floor. It was a very lovely situation and Mrs. Hinkle would come down to serve them coffee. Meredith eventually joined the Art Center School in Los Angeles from where she earned her degree. In 1962, she moved to New York City where she took night classes at the Arts Students League and worked as an illustrator in the advertising field. Meredith would often spend her weekends traveling to Dublin to visit Meryman’s studio. At the studio, she assisted the artist in completing portrait commissions. Meredith moved to San Francisco in 1970. Here, she began to exhibit her paintings in galleries while at the same time working as an illustrator. She also reunited with Duncan Abbott, her childhood friend, and the two got married. Meredith has more than 50 years of experience in her career as an artist, and continues to create beautiful impressionistic portraits, landscapes and still lifes. Framed Meredith Abbott art are very popular in the US and beyond. Meredith holds memberships in the California Art Club and the Santa Barbara Art Association.
