Fruit Framed Art
Before the advent of grocery stores and refrigeration, fruit, especially good fruit, was a luxury item afforded only to the prosperous, indeed it is sometimes the case today also. And so our history is rich with art of such themes. Tables laden with fruits have long been the subject of framed fruit artwork. To those in earlier centuries it represented wealth and prosperity. Today images of fresh fruits embody health and well-being.
Although the early masters were the first to bring into fashion framed fruit still life paintings, many modern artists have been inspired by their work. Artists such as Loran Speck who was inspired by the realism of the Renaissance period and creates beautiful oil paintings, such as “Arch with a View”, and “example”, which mimic those masters with rich, deep colours and play with texture.
Others artists have taken to more modern mediums of realism. Artists such as Amy Melious, Thea Schrack and Martina Schindler have all created framed fruit photography such as “Frutta Del Pranzo I”, “Uva Vede” and “Appetizing” respectively. Other artists like Laura Denardo have also used photography as a medium but captured the subjects in black and white for contrast.
Other modern artists have gone away from the realism of tradition to create unexpected pieces such as Nicole Etienne’s “Green Pear on Beige” and “Golden Delicious”. Other artists have gone further again to create framed abstract fruit art. Ouida Touchon has created abstract fruit pieces including “Citrus Limon I” and “Citrus Limon II” that use bold, bright colours and imagination.
