Framed Mythology Art

Greek mythology has endured and art served the purpose of keeping the deities alive long after their religions lost all adepts. Rembrandt’s Pallas Athena or Armored Figure depict the goddess of wisdom in full body armor and ready to deliver swift and indiscriminate justice. Equally menacing, yet far less elegant is the image of Saturn Devouring one of his Children by Francisco de Goya. The image captures the very essence of the bloody legend and puts a face to these grim stories.

Sandro Boticelli had an entirely different take and his famous framed Mythology Prints titled The Birth of Venus features the Goddess coming out of the sea. Richard Franklin and Salvador Dali shared the same fascination for Aphrodite and the Apparition of the Face of Aphrodite and Aphrodite’s Dream focus on the facial featured of the Goddess of love and beauty. Danae might be less known by people tonight but the framed pictures of her created by Michael Parkes and Gustav Klimt are every bit as beautiful.
