Framed Frieze Art usually have a Roman or Greek building in the background, simply because these were the cultures that were responsible for making this architectural element popular. Contrary to popular belief, they were used not only for exteriors but also interiors and they had the same powerful effect on the audience. It is virtually impossible not to notice them and with some of them being sculpted, painted or even produced by skilled calligraphic decorators, they quickly become the focal point.

Framed Frieze Art also emphasizes the extreme diversity of materials used for creating these elements, with everything from plasterwork, to carved wood being suitable for the purpose. Even though they were very popular during Roman times, they didn’t lose their appeal and constantly evolved, all culminating with the versions produced in the 17th century.
