Framed Washington Monument Prints
One of the most popular and easiest to recognize monuments in the nation’s capital, the Washington Monument is also one of the tallest structures. The obelisk appears in dozens of Framed Washington Monument Art assembled by FramedArt.com, with several other key structures in the background. It was built more than one century ago, with its construction starting in 1848 and being halted several times due to several reasons, including lack of funds and internal disputes.
A quick glance at the Framed Washington Monument Art will reveal the fact that the obelisk is located nearby Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool. The panoramic images offer unique vantage points, from the bottom of the structure, as well as high angle views over the entire city. It was built of bluestone gneiss, granite and marble, which makes it the tallest stone structure in the world at more than 550 feet. After construction and until 1889 it was the tallest structure in the world, surpassing the Cologne Cathedral and being eventually surpassed itself by the Eiffel Tower.
The Washington Monument serves the purpose of honoring the first president of the United States, George Washington who also served as commander of the Continental Army. The structure sustained some damage in 2011 when both Hurricane Irene and Virginia earthquake hit the East Coast but the structure was swiftly repaired. For a while, it could only be admired in Framed Washington Monument Art, yet the monument was reopened to the broad audience in May 2014.
