Donald Zolan (1937 – 2009) was a beloved painter of children from America. A 5th generation artist, he began drawing when he was only 3 years old. He completed his very first oil painting when he was 8. He loved art from a tender age and would refer to himself as a humble Artist from Illinois. Zolan came from a family of wood carvers, engravers, painters, and sculptors from the Czech Republic and Germany. He would say that if something happened to him that he could not paint and create again, he wouldn’t be able to live anymore. He graduated from Chicago's American Academy of Art, after which he began his artistic career apprenticing under Haddon Sundblom, the famous Chicago illustrator. His precious paintings of children earned him global fame and made his reputation to grow as a distinguished portrait artist. He won the America's Favorite Plate Artist six times, and also won the Collector Editions Awards of Excellence 12 times. Today, his paintings are licensed to thirty multinational companies worldwide including co-branding programs with the Collegiate Licensing Group, International Harvester and John Deere. In 2008, Zolan was accepted in membership to the prestigious Society of Illustrators in New York. His work had become a familiar feature in the nation's most popular Sunday newspaper supplement called Parade magazine. His art are in great demand, especially the ready to hang framed Donald Zolan art which are currently found in many corporate and private collections all over the world. A spiritual man, Zolan was profound and soft-spoken. He was not a man of many words but a man of great words.
