Xaras has more than three decades of teaching experience as professor and Chair of Fine Arts at Ursinus College. From 1973 until his retirement in 2007, he taught drawing, painting, art history and printmaking. Since his retirement, he has presented art history lectures at PAFA, and has taught a variety of studio courses, including portrait painting. Xaras’ passion for art started from his early childhood. He was lucky to have a father who was also an artist, and he initially received instructions him. He later attended the Philadelphia College of Art, from where he received a bachelor's degree in 1967. Five years later, he earned an MFA in painting at Tyler School of Art. For his students who were artists at heart, Xaras truly inspired them. He is a fantastic professor who helps even the least artistic people to cultivate and pinpoint their own unique talents. Xaras has such a positive attitude and is so complimentary towards his students that there is no chance they won't enjoy his classes. Plus, he is an amazingly gifted artist. Currently, he teaches Methods of the Masters, and Figure Painting, and Portrait painting in Pastels in the Continuing Education program. Many galleries and collectors own ready to hang framed Xaras art because they are in great demand. His art also adorn the walls of many private homes all over the world. He’s is a member of the Portrait Society of America. He’s an associate professor of fine art at Ursinus College in Collegeville, where he teaches 3 days a week. He has taught there since 1973. Currently, he lives with his wife, Judy in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania.
