The artwork of American artist Andrew Newell Wyeth (12 July, 1917 – 16 January, 2009) marshaled a huge following due to their depiction of American culture and lifestyle. He found a way to appeal to his locality by practicing realism art, often using the people around him as his subjects. Wyeth’s art therefore mainly captured his surroundings, particularly Cushing, Maine, his summer home and Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, his hometown. He became among the greatest artists of his time. Having an illustrator father, Wyeth was introduced to art at a tended age. His father was very supportive, helping him to build his artistic skills. Moreover, his family maintained a cordial internal relationship that provided for both moral and material support in developing their individual talents. Wyeth spent most of his childhood at home with his father due to unstable health. This gave him time to learn more from his dad. He started painting more seriously after his father introduced him to his studio and taught him a few tricks and techniques in the study of figures and watercolor. At the same time, his father introduced him to countryside landscapes that would later become his main subjects. His brother in law also taught him egg tempera, adding to his treasure of skills. However, unlike his father’s art, Wyeth’s art involved the use of limited colors. By the time he hit 20 years, he had some of his paintings displayed at the New York-based Macbeth Gallery, and were sold out. Wyeth’s piece, “Christina’s World,” that he created in 1948 when he was 31, was selected into the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. It was in 1963 that the then US president John F. Kennedy honored him with the Presidential Freedom Award, going down in history as the first painter to earn the award. Andrew Wyeth framed art still remain famous and are selling across the globe. His original pieces are collected by both private and public collectors across the globe.
