Kathy Winkler began her career as an artist when she was very young – she used to draw animals at home and also at school. When she came of age and while raising her daughter, she managed to win many award at art show competitions. And as her daughter became teenagers, Kathy began to work as an engineering graphics artist. Her duty involved supporting Navy contracts and she also did patent drawings. She was promoted to a managerial position and at an engineering firm and was in charge of engineering projects that focused on naval combat warfare systems. She was also studying and she obtained her Master of Arts in International Studies, and completed work at Oxford University in England. She worked for 20 years in government contracting after which she decided to return to her true love - creating paintings of animals. Over the past almost 20 years, her style has changed, but her subjects remain the same. The artist has been recognized for her quality work by museums that are animal oriented. There are framed Kathy Winkler art in the permanent collections of many museums, and has had shows at those museums. Her art has been on the cover of the Journal New Mexico Stockman in 7 consecutive years. Her art was also illustrated in an article that appeared in a leading magazine titled the Texas Longhorn Trails Magazine. When painting her subjects, she attempts to capture not just what they are, but also the spirit that they are. Kathy has visited parks and ranches from the Rockies to Virginia, south to Texas and north to the Dakotas looking for potential subjects for her paintings. She currently resides in Virginia.
